Description of the Garden

Ashley Deal Memorial Butterfly Garden

Chandor Gardens Website

There is no charge to visit Ashley's Memorial Butterfly Garden at Chandor Gardens. Enter the gates and follow the road to the parking lot and you will see the memorial garden. There is a charge if visiting Chandor Gardens.

Working with the City of Weatherford, the PCMGA has an active involvement in the historic Chandor Gardens. This jewel is located in the heart of the city and is a legacy to the vision of portrait artist, Douglas Chandor. The Gardens were brought back to a place of beauty by Melody and Chuck Bradford and then purchased by the City of Weatherford. September 13, 2002 was the date of the City of Weatherford's acquisition of Chandor Gardens. It is now a public garden.

The PCMGA created and now maintains a Memorial Butterfly Garden in memory of Ashley Deal, the daughter of an employee of the city, who died in an auto accident. A plot of sticky, gummy clay soil is now an example of a beautiful, working butterfly garden. It is a delight to see the soaring butterflies flutter among the plants and kiss the cheeks of the statuary placed there in honor of Ashley. This garden is located in the public parking area.

Another major undertaking by the Master Gardeners is identifying all the plants within Chandor Gardens. A publication, A Botanical Guide of Chandor Gardens, resulted from this effort, In 2005, this publication received an award from the Texas Master Gardener Association.

The entry gates to Chandor Gardens are located at 711 West Lee Avenue in Weatherford.
